Clip Art VII

The cross of St. James.
St. James, one of Christ's apostles, preached in Samaria, Judea and Spain. According to tradition St. James was martyred in Judea by Herod, after which his body was miraculously transported to Iria Flavia in Spain. His relics can be found in Santiago de Compostela, which is the destination of the pilgrimage known as "The Way of St. James". In the image I used the scallop shell which is a symbol of St. James and the Cross of St. James that is used by the Military Order of Santiago, a chivalric order in Spain originating in the 13th century. The cross can also be seen on the flag of Santiago de Compostela and on the Spanish Army emblem.
