Muñequitos Monasticos: Order of Friars Minor Conventual

Conventual Franciscan Friars. They coexisted as part of the Friars Minor until separate orders formed in the 16th century. They use a black or gray habit thus their nicknames the "Gray Friars" or the "Black Franciscans"

  1. please google more...conventual friars not "sprouted" from franciscans. The Franciscan order split in to two in 1517, namly Obrservants and Conevtual. All Observants Orders were united in to one in XXc. Conventual ramained independent with seperete Minister General. They use Grey or Black Habit. In some places they are called Greyfriars (Africa, Uk)

  2. Even though I see no fault in using the word sprout, I'll replace it with a different term. You are correct they were formally split in the 16th century not 19th, fixed.

By the way, My descriptions are not a comprehensive history of the religious institutes, but I did ad a couple more details.

  3. It is the Observantes who split and separated themselves from the others, non the Conventuals. This is history!

  5. Those who were once called the "Observants", because they were faithful and observant to the charism and rule of their founder are now called just "Friars Minor" or "Franciscans" and their Minister General is referred to and entitled by the Catholic Church as the successor of St. Francis.
