Muñequitos Monasticos: Dominican Cooperator Brother

A Dominican Cooperator Brother is a lay friar in the Order of Preachers. Historically they existed to take care of worldly things so that the priest could focus on priestly duties. Currently their habits are identical to the Priests Brothers, but in the past they wore a distinctive habit of a black capuce and scapular as seen in the cartoon. That is the habit you see St. Martin of Porres wearing in his depictions.

The following is the current habit

  1. The Dominicans of the Saint Albert Province have come back to using this particular habit for their Cooperator Brothers as is evidenced by the picture on their blog: http://dominicancooperatorbrother.blogspot.com/

  2. They are not, Brother Paul was just demonstrating it for a post

I think a return to the old habit would be welcomed by the Cooperator Bros.

  3. I stand corrected. They mentioned something about why they no longer wear the black because they wanted to emphasis their equality with one another... I really wish they would return to the black... i think it would be nice to be able to know who is a cooperator brother and who is not.
